The Age of Iron and Arcanium
Dwellers in The Mirage
Volume 34: The Halls of Ruin
Roxanne had been crawling on the floor for the past thirty yards. The rough stones had grabbed and torn at her clothes but she pressed on regardless. I need to get to the inner chambers, she thought. David had had a full three days start ahead of her and these Haeliff ruins demanded exploration. All of their research had pointed them in this direction, here in the dark continent, through countless hostile Morgh tribes and the jungle itself, through misdirection and constantly to the research they had arrived here. The structure was a cyclopean ziggurat half buried in an overgrown jungle within a crater high in the tropical mountains of the dark continent. The moment they had reached it something had happened and Roxanne had awoken some days later to find her partner made his way in before her and now was a game of catch up.
The small electric torch she carried flickered with every crawl forward. She could make out the faint outlines of hieroglyphics carved into the walls around her. At some other point she would have loved to study them in great detail. As she observed them moving forward she had the sensation of doom and shadow. She also couldn’t shake the notion that she was being watched from the darkness.
